Not caring and later caring is not the same as claiming to care then not caring at all
Just remember, not caring about something and then caring later will always be more normal than caring deeply and then not caring at all later.

People come to care about shit they didn't care about previously all the time. It's easy to dismiss stuff as overblown due to a lack of information at some point, only later to see the importance of it. That is a normal growth of views. Look at things you personally believe in - there was likely a time in your life when you saw some of them as less important than you do now.

It's a lot less normal to claim that some issue is of the utmost importance, build a movement around it, and then, without real reason, later pretend it didn't matter at all. That is usually a sign that someone never really cared in the first place and was simply using the issue as a cudgel until it became inconvenient to do so for some reason.

These two shifts in views are not the same.

Sort of like how when bad people hurt you and do their best to avoid getting caught in time so when you try to address it, they say that it is in the past, even though they suffered no consequences for their wrongdoing (up until you took matters into your own hands because what the fuck are the cops going to do about it?).
