There's multiple sources that can be used to confirm Trump's action. FBI under previous directors have all those sources. Those would be available when Trump announced his intention to run in 2016 and again available for 2020 and 2024. The fact that they can't find anything like that, especially in 2016 when Trump had virtually no political power is a huge tell that there's nothing.
