It's cyclical. Libertarianism is the result of over centralization and tyrannical systems. A free society with sound money produces wealth, over time that wealth and power becomes centralized (We're here), power and wealth then tells subjects how to live (Communism), generally this ends badly and people want to "start over" and demand freedom and individual choice.
Libertariansim->Centralization->Socialism/Communism-> Libertarianism. These are part of cycles identified by many many people namely, Polybius, Cicero, Machiavelli, Giambattista Vico, Ibn Khaldun, Arthur M.Schlesinger Sr., Arthur M.Schlesinger Jr., William Strauss, Neil Howe, Nikolai Kondratiev, George Modelski, Alexandre Deulofeu.
