How gullible do you have to be? The government isnt fucking magic, it's human beings pretending order actually exists and its not held together with blind trust in the system (which is currently failing) and duct tape.

The mythos is part of the reason monarchs were so powerful for so long, people like to believe god's on their side or there's a great powerful man who will do great powerful things. The CIA became the US' instead of a person or religion. Same shit though, they cant perform miracles or the impossible like free energy or hide they station on the moon without anyone noticing.
