Music and how people share it in the Morden Age
Music and how people share it in the Morden Age

so a mate sent me a link to the new Deftones song and I told him I thought it wasn't interesting. this started us talking about how we find new music now compared to how we used to back in the 90's in High School.
he had a CD burner and I was on IRC getting mp3's. used to sell burnt CD's at school. Advanced CD's were $30. $5 for something we had in our collection. we'd give you 3 free burnt CD's if you gave us something we didn't have and wanted.
so every cunt in High School is coming to us for music. both of us got exposed to a fair bit of stuff we probably never would have.
I still manage to find new stuff. I am still involved in piracy so I have dudes who suggest me stuff all the time. he said he has trouble with Spotify and most of the new music is suggestions from me. so I wanted to know how you guys find music now compared to how you found it in the past? I use Deezer but I never try to find new music. the convenience is just too good compared to juggling FLAC's on my phone
anyway links to the new Deftones song and another some leaf suggested me from IRC days. post links and share

All these artists sat by during the LGBT uprising of the past decade, and all the immigration shit, and didnt say a word, didnt speak out, didnt stand up for our people, didnt stand up for whats right.

So fuck every single one of them. Fred Durst of all people did more than all the rest.

"Morden, I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I want to look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this." - Vir Cotto

So if a bands music sounds good to you, you won't mind if it promotes genocide of your people (via immigration, for example), destruction of all diversity (ie. Tikkun olam racemixing), primate behavior (ie. All hip hop), etc

Wild self report

normally if the lyrical content is abhorrent to me I will not like the music. I am not really going to care if some death metal band sings about chopping people up. a black metal band about satan a nigger raps about nigger shit. I hate rap mostly

Thats what im saying. Some topics, some assertions, are unpalatable. Death/gore metal ... these bands arent actually trying to convince anyone to do bad things. You go to their concerts and its the chillest most upstanding crowd of any genre. This is well known, and kinda makes it a non-apply to say things like "I dont care about lyrical content if the song is good" based on examples like that. Same for the faggot song - its not explicitly going into the fact that all gay men are disgusting poopdickers, so during the song we can forget about how disgusting all gay men really are.

So while it seems like "...dont care about other political views..." would stand a strong chance of warm reception by a general audience ... you and I both know that's an untruth. Voices matter. Influence matters. Art matters.

I guess it's more how overt is the subversion. the song espresso by Sabrina Carpenter. I hate the song and it's message. I never want to listen to it ever again. that song is well written and catchy and gets stuck it your head. it's so good that it scares me if you understand what I mean. that they can make a song like that and it's in my head and I hate it

I keep finding some great stuff i didn’t know before.
I don’t have patience for “modern” (as. In current) music.

I found as I got older some of the bands I listened to when I was younger either I over played or just grew out of. some even nostalgia doesn't work. there was a lot of trash grunge and nu metal bands. some times a band comes out with a new album that is killer so I still keep and ear out. most of the new music I find are older bands who I never knew about. then I get the odd thing were I like their new stuff that every other fan hates

Nothing was when I feel like Meshuggah started falling off for me. Bleed is great but the album Obzen isn't anything great to me. I think the guitars could be catchier in that Rosanna version but it's defiantly got the poly rhythms

1995 here.
Appalled at how little zoomers here know about FLAC, torrenting, and the proper order and way to listen to music (albums, EPs, etc).
It is like when I was 12 and I just dropped all the files out of a DVD my cousin burned with music for me, and listened to the tracks on random.

Zoomers pay for everything and they think wireless HPs are "HQ" somehow.

I buy anything I really like on CD. Have a server at home with FLAC that I can play on whatever in the house. use streaming for when not home on the phone. I still normally listen to full albums or sections if the album is shit halfway through. I only listen to random tracks if I make some party playlist and my appease a wide range of tastes

most good bands have the 3-5 album rule. if they suffer sophomore slump too much they wont make it past three sometimes 1 good album. Deftones have 2 good albums and I think ATF is better than White Pony. I never listen to either anymore

I have a QNAP NAS I bought ages ago. It has some 20TB HDD hooked up. I use Plex Amp to stream over wifi to audio etc. I just download through ftp to my PC. I have really good speakers for my PC. I have my guitar amp etc hooked up in the same room. I used to use an SD card but just keep albums I like on it and use Deezer for most other shit on my phone, $12AUD a month

spent years on /mu/ building up an archive. that was also around the time of having a dedicated music player (zune for me) and no smartphone so it was a little more work than just opening up a streaming service. now, i just don't really care to take the time to find, download, store, organize, and transfer all those files. there's so much on streaming services that its easier just to pay the subscription fee and also not have to worry about dedicating/maintaining a block of storage space on my phone. for a while i tried storing everything in mega and accessing my music through the cloud, but its really not as seamless of an experience and its limited to the quality that i can find (most of my stuff was in 320kbps). apple music says it streams lossless and its pretty convenient, i just store all the new releases i listen to in a playlist for the year so i can go back and see what i listened to each year. albumoftheyear dot org is pretty great for keeping up with new releases.

YouTube recommendations based on an account with years and years of obscure indie music searched on it. YouTube throws me music videos that will never get more than a few thousand views all the time. Putting in a single old/obscure indie band will have my recommendations filled with new obscure indie music for a week or two. Same with any genre.

I was really enjoying this AMV
