I live off-campus, but all it is (at least for a STEM field like Computer Science or Informatics) is being assigned homework that takes several days to complete one assignment (due to it being that difficult), as well as not doing anything at all other than go to classes or tutoring sessions (where there's a lot of other students due to it being that difficult). The only thing to do when not studying or go to classes is eat there.

So it's torture. And absolutely nothing like the movies (which is all bullshit anyway).

Yes, as wild as movies or worse. Though theres usually cliques of people who are not the party or social types. I hooked up my first night at college and 4 times total my freshman year without really trying. Typical frat parties, there were chicks with insane body counts (highest I heard was 50 in 2 years).
Was an athlete the last 2 years and it made pulling girls stupid easy.
Even the "nerdy" colleges in Socal have their moments. But tiny private colleges definitely have less parties and sometimes dont even have frat houses. Never joined a frat personally.

There is a reason why I changed majors to informatics. A lot of programming still, but none of the nonsense I have to cope with. I had to do a class on doing higher order functions in CS, and it was extremely difficult where for exams, you needed to write complete and accurate code on pen and paper, with a 33% considered a passing grade for exams. The vast majority of students didn't even make that threshold (but they thankfully scaled the grades down so I still passes).

My school has a lot of wokies but there are no dorms. In all my years being there I don’t think I have ever even heard of a protest being held. In my experience, tons of international students (who are always working and most of whom are very bitter about it) and lots of adult students who are nice to have as classmates but completely kill campus life because they have family and work obligations. If you go to a major school like UBC or UoT it might be different; colleges select for people who aren’t really great at much, including organizing and attending events.

What do you think college was like back when it was white male and everyone wore suits? Was it like Hogwarts? Or the jedi academy?

I hated almost every person I met, both student and professor, at all three universities I went to. And one of those schools was UPenn, so it's not like I was just going to shitty institutions. I ended up dropping out and trying to make a future for myself. Now I'm turning 26 in a few days, still living with my dad, and I can't get a real job because everything half-decent requires a bachelor's degree and I only have an associate's.

It was so bad, I needed to take a piss-easy class to counter-act it thay barely had any work (that also had nothing to do with my major except be part of the "general requirement". This wasn't due to my own choice, but was more or less the policy that my advisors did, that they more or less do to every student taking that class.

Very common at any large state(government) school. Now that a lot of the big high ranked state schools are 30%+ Asian I'm not sure if Greek life has the same social significance

When I was there you basically had about five groups of people. The Greek frat/sorority crowd. The clean hipster IPA lefty crowd. The dirty hipster doper commie music festival crowd. The regular non affiliated people. And then the nerds.

I did very well in undergrad and had alot of fun. In the US, at a major university unless you are on some track like chemistry or something the classes were easy. There are some competitive hard majors but most are easy. It is a money mill, so they dont want people to flunk out immediately. If you arent stupid and you go to class its hard to really fail. I dont remember studying much in class. I had alot of fun and alot of wild times. Post graduate was alot different though it was actually hard and I had to study and stuff. But undergrad was just a big giant party.

There is a big difference between a school with a proper greek contingent and one with a lighter less defined one.

Take alot of your major schools in the deep south- the greek contingent is a very big deal a totally insular group. And can you blame them? Kek they are literally paying big money for that shit why would they want to invite people in to do it for free kek? It is seen as exclusive and there is a hierarchy and alot of politics in there the whole thing is a bit gay. Tgere is a massive difference between an A-B tier frat and a D list frat.

To see the difference in a university with a real deal greek contingent you can compare the houses of the A tier frats on the Greek Row. They are like massive historic antebellum mansions. I've been to other campuses where they were just large residential houses almost and the various groups intermingled much more. It also depends on the school size. A gint school with 30k people arent going to intermingled as much as a small one.

I disagree. The A tier frats you have to be fairly rich. But the B tier frats not so much. And being unaffiliated isnt dismal. In fact it is probably the best choice. Hell alot of the Greeks burn out after the second year and stop spending much time with the frats.

Where I went it was a huge greek contingent and a huge hipster contingent. I didnt dislike either one per se really but was quite happy to be unaffiliated and had a great time on that path.
