2.) To settle new lands
3.) To take care of you when you're old

Which of these apply to a 21st Century first world country? By and large, there is no family business. There is nowhere left to colonize. Old people are put in nursing homes.

Previously you had to have a white collar job & degree to do this, but now anyone can do it, even unskilled labor.
