I remember some faggot paid $300k for one of those dumb ape jpegs. What ever happened to that guy? Because he had some kind of self awareness to know that he couldn't just bought a house with that kind of money but still (out of greed) went and bought the jpeg.
To be honest, I thought they might have been cool to do collectables, like digital cards for games or something. But retards got carried away.
The Ethereum network was a joke at the time, there were times where you could pay $5 to send something and it could still fail and eat your money. I don't know if they ever fixed that it seemed like their solution was to just keep adding more and more complexity whereas I think that something like Bitcoin (or something like lightning on top) is closer to what it should be.
The issue with those "auction sites" is that you didn't really know if someone was just minting a bunch of some token then buying a bunch with their own money to create the impression of demand, and also trading with themselves across wallets to create FOMO as people saw the prices rise.
