The way I know that Trump hasn’t ushered in fascism and is instead turbo-neoliberalism is that we are all still isolated and suspicious of each other and we are still all pining to live in little high-trust communities. We are still concerned about child care and still putting out elders in nursing homes because we still don’t have communities that properly support kids or elders.
Some portion of us thinks that communism will get us there and some portion thinks simply ejecting all browns will get us there. But even if we whitewash the country, we will still be living in decaying, accelerated, alienated reaganomics.
And if we elect Vance, then it’ll be everybody doing Mechanical Turk tasks training AIs for Peter Thiel for the rest of our lives, until we either step out of line and get disappeared by shock troops or we die of an infection from a minor cut.
