The fullest extent of "corruption" in the Eastern bloc was high-level Party members getting mildly better housing (in East Germany this amounted to a whopping 4-bedroom home for the literal crème de la crème of the Politburo), maybe a car, and access to some harder-to-get food.. That was it. And for this the Western bloc raged endlessly about how out of touch they were, how privileged, how unequal.
Meanwhile even the poorest were still guaranteed a job, a home, an education. To be unemployed was illegal - the state was required to provide you work and income, and housing was subsidised. The disparity between the bottom and top was comparatively marginal.
Contrast that with the capitalist world where the elite live in enormous mansions around the world, jet around in private airliners, sail in $500 million yachts, while you struggle to decide between paying for food or rent this week.
