It was, but their return policy was great. We'd buy shit, use it for short of a month, then bring it back. My friend worked at one and one time a kid returned an Xbox controller and so he and his boss took the controller out back and boss swings it by the cable and smashed it on the side of the building. This was circa 2000s, the end of days for RS. Nobody gave a fuck, not even the stores manager.

I needed a microswitch to repair something the other day and I thought about, as I looked at the options from alibaba and amazon, how nice it would be to drive to a store and pay a bit under a dollar for a microswitch today instead of a pack of 17 of them for 10 dollars arriving between august 15th and october 25th of 2027.

Only thing I liked as a kid about Radio Shack was looking at their remote control things. I could never afford the cool expensive ones but I did get one from there and would just go in from time to time to lust after the good stuff.
I remember it always had a very distict "electronic" smell to it..

It was just a different time back then, Id remove price stickers on video games and buy them for a lot less, a few times they even thought there was something wrong with the price in the computer when they actually bothered to scan it and still let me buy it for the sticker price

I remember those micro hotwheel sized rc cars. Thos were the sickest shit. It turned the kitchen in to a litteral road america race track with just a dry erase marker. Sure you could do it with bigger cars but thats difficult to do in january when its -20f outside and you had nothing better to do. Now my wife and 2 sons play with the tiny toy battlebots instead.
