The US was built by European immigrants who came from more developed countries to modernize former colonies, basically everyone who hated the regulations in Europe and didn't want to build back after WW2/WW1 came to the US. I'm absolutely convinced Reagan was a USSR asset, the US had such limited migration until the 1990s, but due to NAFTA the country was flooded with Mexicans. The US for a long time was similar to what China is today, ex-European colonies with less labor laws that cutthroat businessmen and industrialists flocked to.
