They started a conflict thinking that western sanctions would hold Israel from retaliating, the equivalent of kicking someone in the nuts then hiding behind the teacher.

Instead of a teacher, however, it's their own population.

They then act surprised when Israel doesn't simply send an army into a built up fortress city, and instead plays to its strengths, using high tech, high precision strikes to remove as much as possible, before securing the area.

There problem is that taking that many people hostage requires that they care for them, they already murdered and starved to death so many innocent lives and it's all on camera so they are now international war criminals.
