It's even worse. +3 means that's 3 days of DVR viewership. DVR viewers usually fast forward the commercials, which means it's not a useful metric.

There was some shitty woke show a few years ago that tried to boast about its 30 day DVR viewership to avoid cancellation. 30 days is such a long period of time that some of the time sensitive ad campaigns supporting the show had been over for weeks. Unsurprisingly, that show wasn't renewed.

That's the big thing people keep missing
18-35 is THE KEY demographic that tv executives want tuning in. They're the ones with the money. They're the ones that are willing to buy new products from the commercials, thus bringing advertisers.
Under 18? Too young, no money
Over 35? Have money, but usually more set in their ways and won't buy new stuff too often
Colbert getting terrible numbers for 18-35 is a big reason they're cutting him out, advertisers know they won't get a return and are no longer investing
