I like how the American right wing started lobbying against vaccines simply because big pharma has the potential to make more money pushing treatments than it does pushing vaccines. Like measles was declared eradicated in the US, so what used to be millions of kids with post infection health problems basically dropped to zero. Same with polio. Polio crippled a shit ton of people in the US who then needed life long care and treatments. A person getting a single vaccine makes the pharma company however much they made off that 1 dose. A person having a chronic health issue is a customer for life.
So I'm fairly certain that polio is going to follow measles in the 2030 by having a big comeback thanks to successful anti-vaccine lobbies. And big pharma (as well as the rest of the for profit US health system) is going to make bank. Insurance companies will list polio cripplings as a pre-existing condition and won't pay. Adults who get measles and run the risk of becoming sterile (because the virus does destroy the testicals in a percentage of infections) might then need fertility treatments or just accepting they can't have kids.
Americans are also just dumb enough they want to be money printers for the elites and even elected a Hollywood elite to be president twice. So yeah, big pharma not only won, they will absolutely cash in over the next few decades regardless what happens over the next 5 years.
Remember, being antivaxxine is pro big pharma in the long run. Sales of 1 vaccine go down, sales on a dozen treatments go up. Profit.
