An off-duty police officer, who was walking down the street, witnessed the crime and fired at the criminals. A young man stayed on the motorcycle and was hit. He fell to the ground along with the vehicle. The other one, who was trying to steal the victim’s motorcycle, was hit during the escape (see above).

He fired a total of 15 shots:

A 17-year-old teenager was hit three times in the chest and died at the scene.

His 19-year-old accomplice was wounded in the right arm and left eye (the eye was seriously injured). He was taken to Hospital do Vicentino, where he survived.

Authorities confirmed the police officer acted in legitimate defense of third parties. Notably, the stolen motorcycle belonged to a previous robbery earlier that same day. The surviving suspect has been formally charged with multiple counts of robbery and “corruption of minors” and was arrested on the spot. Investigators are awaiting his recovery for questioning. The case has been officially registered as both a robbery and a homicide at the 1st Police District of São Vicente.
