There was a sect of Muslims during the middle-ages who smoked it. They were called Hashashins which means "ones who smoke Hashish". It is from them that we get the word "Assassin". They used to do assassinations (basically medieval insurgents, but without modern IEDs I guess) against the Crusaders.

Anyway, I don't know is Islam in general prohibits smoking weed, but for that sect in particular they embraced it.
