Alright, your response now lets me think I lashed out too much in my last post, this is pretty rational.

Britain had special rules applied to them regarding budgets and all that, and Schengen (basically 0 border controls) isnt automatically part of it either.
I will be completely honest. Someone as competent as Elvira could have worked something out thats benefitial for Russians.
You are completely right that there is certain eceonomic shocks that happen to these countries joining EU (and I can imagine there is similarities and dangers that could also be observed in the russian 90s) and that these applied to Greece, Romania, and Poland, for example. Greece, at least, had the advantage of being a big tourist destination that profits from Schengen et.al. and having their territorial disputes with TΓΌrkiye being massively disarmed with joining.
I would have preferred a different outcome than would see today.
