The only chance Yanukovich had was if he asked for Belorussian or Russian national guard help, but he fled instead since was indecisive. We could also look towards a myriad of cases where the US tried to influence a countries course through those same means and even more aggressive means and failed miserably due to a lack of desire for change from the local populations. The US isn't as powerful as some people make them out to be or as they themselves would like to believe they are.
