If anything, this is an indicator that China is moving in the right direction. While the US allows special interests groups to lobby congress so private equity can continue to buy homes that they plan to rent to the next generation, China seems to be doing the opposite. They are aggressively expanding housing in urban areas while investing in local subsidy programs to ensure people get housed and stay housed. Meanwhile home ownership rates in the US are at an all-time low, homelessness is at all-time high, and Trump just federally legalized arresting homeless people (to fix the symptoms not the core issue). If both countries are experiencing population collapse due to economic forbearance of having children, I wonder which approach is better at fixing that? But yes, big number larger than smaller number. Big number go up, so we must be winning.
