Russia and the Eastern Slavs are their own civilizational category with a distinctive intellectual and cultural heritage compared to the West, and they differ enough from the Middle East and Asia that they shouldn't be classified as Eastern either. You could say they're a transcontinental Eurasian civilization between European, Middle Eastern, and East Asian civilizations.
