They are the two most infamous "Häjyt" basically the equivalent of wild west gunslingers but they used knives instead. There was an epidemic of them in the late 1800s, but it sort of lives on in modern white trash who get into drunken brawls with knives.

I guess hanging was the death sentence at the time, but most avoided the death sentence. Many were killed by their "fellows" and because this was the 1800s it was very hard to PROVE guilt etc. So they only got sentenced if they got caught red handed. Even then the punishment wasn't usually death per say but for example 10 years of hard labour or even exile to Siberia (and hard labour there). In addition "merely" brawling wasn't really considered a crime. They got into trouble if someone died or if they assaulted people outside the subculture.

for the specifics: Rannanjärvi to the left got stabbed to death, his son had stolen horses but then got caught and beaten by villagers. This was "dishonourable" to Rannanjärvi so he went to get his revenge on the villagers but they stabbed him to death. and Isontalon Antti to the right actually lived a long life and almost became 80 years old. He was in and out of prison his whole life but then in his older days calmed down and was even involved in opening up a school etc. His son also got stabbed to death but he was so old at that point he couldn't go and try to get revenge.
