I don't understand this take. I don't smoke pot anymore, but I know plenty of successful people who smoke weed from time to time. Most computer programmers smoke weed. My friend makes mid 6 figs and gets blazed regularly, just not until after work usually.

I know so many professionals who smoke weed. I also know plenty of losers who smoke weed. If you're a loser it can be a crutch, and it's not some magic drug that makes your life better. But you shouldn't go to jail for smoking or growing it

Most people cannot responsibly use drugs. If we need to have equality under the law then there need to be harsh drug laws to take care of the least capable people. Maybe not prison but forced treatment. The superior alternative is inequality under the law where you earn the right to use drugs (and other vices). But people don't like being confronted with their inferiority so they'd never go for that.
