I won't lie, alcohol is hard to quit, like any addiction, but god is with you even in your darkest moments, so when you get a temptation to drink. Remember what god has planned for you and that his love and mercy will bring you more joy than a drink ever will, have a blessed day

Anything I can get my hands on. Now I have a cumulative hangover from several days of binge drinking. Felt good at the time but now I feel like I'm on death's door. I am not a good drunk and it's ruining my relationships with people, and I fear it's only a matter of time before I do something especially retarded.

OP my own experience was that i only stopped when i truly wanted to stop
not because a doctor said so
not because my friends were worried
not because my family were worried
not because my gf broke up with me

after a particularly heavy binge drinking session ending in hallucinations etc. what i realised was that actually, noone was coming to save me (family, friends, police, god, doctor) and noone could stop me from drinking myself to death. but I think what that also made me realise was the following two things

1) noone could stop me other than myself, but noone was causing me to drink, other than myself. i wasnt under duress or under anyones or anythings control, other than myself
2) fundamentally, i didnt actually want to die

once i had this realisation stopping was the easiest thing i've ever done - i realised that i was basically just doing the equivalent of repeatedly slamming my hand in a car door and then wondering why my fingers were always broken. sounds bizarre but it really is that simple. some behavioural therapy and other changes to your life e.g. diet, exercise, sleep schedule will help afterwards, but to stop drinking is actually that simple, and thats the bizarre thing about it

I very strongly insist AA is for recovering alcoholics etc. And I assume they'd agree. Do not use AA or any other psycho mumbo jumbo to cure alcoholism aka quit drinking. RECOVERY https://archived.moe/t/thread/1291895/

For anyone suffering - You need to dramatically cut down. If you keep drinking you are at extremely high risk of early Alzheimers/dementia. that should scare you enough to quit. alcohol contains an anti-nutrient called Thiaminase (Google it) which blocks your bodies ability to absorb Thiamine, which is extremely important for brain health. alcoholics also tend to not eat well enough already, which compounds the issue. there are a couple of different brain issues that can arise from continued abuse in this manner, they have different names but are basically versions of alzheimers/dementia. > https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wernicke%E2%80%93Korsakoff_syndrome
is an example. it can happen as early as your late 40s, so stop now while you're ahead. a good (real)scare is better than any "Yes man" kind words. save money you waste on alcohol, and save your life at the same time.
taper off using https://hams.cc/taper/
Also:
1. Buy a simple wall calendar
2. Pin calendar to wall
3. Record how many drinks you have that day.
4. Go a day without a drink, mark the day with a big red X in marker
You will accumulate days free of booze and will not want to break the streak of red Xs. Put this calendar right by your bed, somewhere obvious that you cannot miss when waking up or going to bed. Once you go a week, it will be so easy
Your body is probably lacking in electrolytes and vitamins so first days of your taper drink Pedialyte and supplement B vitamins.
You can do this anon.

Final point: you do NOT need to understand *why* you are drinking to stop drinking. That's a trap to keep you worried and drinking. Just stop.

You'll keep drinking until you die, literally. You'll have several moments in life where it gets more difficult to drink, say pancriustitus but you'll return to drinking after the pain gets tollerable, some even keep drinking to numb the pain and get back into drinking early using it as an excuse to "dull the pain" but ultimately it end with you getting blackout drunk and as you pass out asleep you'll stop breathing on your own and never wake up.

Any method involving "slowly going less" is bullshit, because if you're used to 12 beers for a "good night" and "only" get 4, you'll get irritated
just stop going. Buy some other shit to keep you occupied (tea etc.), no it's not the same buzz, it's not supposed to be.
Make it a iron hard rule that the only time you drink is with other people, in person. If you find someone for this weekly or even daily you know who to cut out of your influence.
I still consider myself a heavy drinker, but I'm clean for 8 weeks because my gym routine to stop being a sad sack of fat shit is more important to me now.

if your life experience tells you something matters, cool. but that doesn't make it actually meaningful.
it's just neurons firing in meat.
if meaning is just personal preference, is a heroin addict’s life as meaningful as a doctor’s? if not, why not?

without a higher framework, your "meaning" is indistinguishable from a coping mechanism.
you cling to purpose in a framework that doesn't actually allow for it.
you want things to actually matter but they can't without a sky grandpa.

why prioritize living longer over pleasure?
if given the option to
>A: live in a bubble for 200 years, perfectly safe and healthy
or
>B: live completely hedonistically for 20 years, unsafe and unhealthy but euphoric
would you really choose the former? for what purpose?
if A, then you're admitting life has value beyond pleasure, something an atheistic worldview can't account for
if B, you're admitting that meaning is just sensation.
either way you're stuck trying to justify choices in a system that says none of them matter.

choice between living and dying is the choice between waiting to see what experience holds for you in the future (and dying anyway at some stage) or finishing it early and never having another experience ever again
ultimately we all will lose everything we have in this world when we die some day. why bring that day on early? makes no sense from any perspective
also remember this - a side effect of being miserable for a long time is that you forget what it is like to feel any other way. you may think that your life will be nothing but misery but answer this - how do you actually know that? rather than having a magical ability to tell the future is it not instead more likely that your state of mind and your consumption of alcohol (which has a well documented side effect of making people miserable) is affecting your assessment?

>How
First you must want to quit, no halfassing it
Be completely honest with your self about everything, especially about why you drink
Be completely honest with those around you, you will have to eat a lot of shit, but there is no other way about it
The reason for honesty is simple
Lies are a crutch that acts like it`s helping, but it weighs you down
You spend a lot of energy on remembering the lies, what you said, to whom, when and all that drains energy which could have been used to help yourself
Don`t deny help from anyone or anything, but don`t depend on it either
Any programs that tells you that you need them in order to quit are garbage
You can go to places like AA for a meeting or talk with others, but you should NEVER be dependent on anyone or anything in order to quit something
That is only substituting one habit for another
And one final thing, accept that you will fail, because you will
You fucked up, so what ? Own it, be honest about why and let it go, don`t let that be the reason to continue drinking

Wish you the best

exactly. you gotta lifemaxx.
>There is only one fundamental alternative in the universe: existence or nonexistenceand it pertains to a single class of entities: to living organisms. The existence of inanimate matter is unconditional, the existence of life is not: it depends on a specific course of action. Matter is indestructible, it changes its forms, but it cannot cease to exist. It is only a living organism that faces a constant alternative: the issue of life or death. Life is a process of self-sustaining and self-generated action. If an organism fails in that action, it dies; its chemical elements remain, but its life goes out of existence. It is only the concept of Life that makes the concept of Value possible. It is only to a living entity that things can be good or evil.

"Quit Drinking Now" by Allen Carr. Or you have to get your liver blown out from a few days of binge drinking and experience liver failure in the hospital, and finally make the change. Chances are you can quit right now without it being risky, life threatening detox, which WILL come later if you don't get off the sauce. You have no idea how much harder it can get. But, if you love grain juice that much, keep drinking and pretending you can't do it. You will die if you keep it up, no question.

You decide OP, do you quit once it's ruined your life entirely and you're too sick or broke to buy another drink.

Personally I never quit, I just make sure I never buy more than a 250ml of spirits or more than 3-4 beers at a time, that way I have a chance to sober up before driving to work or can enjoy it without having family, friends and co-workers whining about my drinking habits, and honestly they're more of the problem, the drink was making them tolerable tbdesu. But again, YOU decide OP you have the power to stop drinking, so stop buying this shit for a month, don't bring any money with you when you go outside until you have quit for at least a month.

Let me add something, anon. Back in the decaying carcass of America, I know plenty of guys whose nightly routine is drinking and wat jing sports ball, either at home or in a bar. One drink follows another as a mindless habit. It's hard for them to imagine another life.

Picture yourself in Asia, out at night with a hot cutie. After a meal and a couple of cold ones, you will want to proceed to your residence for major porking action. Hanging around getting sloshed will not be an attractive option to you anymore. And trust me, you will not care about sportsball anymore and will pity the morons watching it at home.

You've got nothing to lose at this point in your life. Cut the cord.
