The thing about is this, all these dumbass goodie goodie AA types will tell you “oh yeah, my life is nothing but rainbows and unicorns since I stopped drinking! The reality is that your life will be 1000x worse without alcohol and that’s what NOBODY is willing to admit!!!! However, the reality is that hardcore substance abuse is just not sustainable from a health perspective. Set a numerical limit. If you drink a lot you can start with 10 in a 24 hr period. Then quickly the limit to 8, Then 6, then slowly reduce it to 4,3 etc.

Get a case of weak beer and try to drink as few a day as possible. I'm assuming you are physically habituated if you are getting jaundiced. Dying of liver failure is a terrible way to die. That is your motivation to stop.

Just drink one beer if you are shaking bad, need to taper off that shit or you can have a seizure. Once you have a seizure they are more likely to occur in the future. Had a friend die because he induced a seizure disorder from binge drinking. Had a seizure in a hotel bathroom and cracked his head on a toilet and died alone. Remember his story and don't be like him.

It has to come from a deep-down decision to quit from you. When I kicked it, it was purely internal to me, I didn't find the opinions or help of others to be very useful or even relevant. I realized that I was slowly killing myself, and decided that I didn't want to do that. Going on a decade dry now.

If you're a hardcore boozer, you will probably need to do a taper to avoid DTs and possible death. I tapered down over 2-3 weeks. Decide how you want to do the taper and stick to it. In my case, I had already decided that I was done with alcohol, so I increasingly hated what I was drinking for my taper. By the time I had zero drinks in a night, I was relieved. YMMV but having a taper is probably a reality for you.

Take on more responsibilities. I fucking love intoxicants and was definitely boozing and smoking too much, but then I got a job that had me doing 50 hour weeks with almost an hour commute one way, and I realized it actually takes a ton of effort to be a degenerate when you're already tired by the end of the day. For the first few months it just compressed the drinking from the whole week to just the weekend, and then tapered off as the physical dependency got worn down.

Go to a psychiater and get pregabalin.
Not drinking is not hard at all it becomes only hard when you feel like an empty shell and barely human anymore.
Pregabalin stopped my hardcore drinking since it kills your suchtdruck and makes you slightly high while feeling really good and your body/mind is okay with that because he HAS something which is enough so you don't even want alcohol anymore. It's the closest to a good benzo relaxing your body and mind while not being even close to addictive like real benzos are. Sure it makes you addicted too but if you're an alcohol anyway better to this than to alcohol.

my mom was an alcoholic for a long time and eventually had several medical problems that forced her (literally) into Alcoholic's Anonymous. it helped a little and she got off liquor, but she still drank beer regularly and managed to have a somewhat normal life. she eventually died of liver cancer anyways.

there are some doctors that say there is no safe amount of alcohol to drink, period, since cirrhosis is irreversible and greatly contributes to medical issues down the road.

my tip is to avoid the future pain you are going to have and try your best off of it now. if you are young still (<40), you can have a reasonably longer life if you find a way to get some help. if you wait too long, it comes to a point where the damage is too great and you will suffer for it.

I don't think I've gone more than two days sober in the last six months. It's more than an hour before noon where I live, and already I'm dumping cheap rye into a Tim Horton's large black dark roast coffee. My power and gas are both cut off and I quit my retarded job two... maybe three weeks ago? Just ghosted them after working there for seven months. My advice would be to engage in physically exhausting activities during the day, and then drink a six pack of your favourite beer/ale/cider/coolers in the evening, i.e. avoid hard liquor. Watch your diet and get plenty of rest. Permit yourself to do the odd bender on holidays.

Wean yourself off, depending on how far you've gone don't do it cold turkey. Alcohol withdraw is a serious thing.

Read Allen Carr, The Easy Way to Control Alcohol. That book got me off the booze. That was after his book The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I didn't have much faith initially, but they worked very well. I know it will sound cliche, but you need to pray, you need to talk to god and ask for help. Go to AA, change your people, places and things. You have a HABIT, you need to break it and form new ones. It is very hard to break habits however, as they are HABITual, because they are essentially ritualistic. To change i you need to change everything around it and associated with it by doing healthy things. The problem is you dont know any healthy people which is why boozing is a habit for you. You need to meet different people and do different things that will feel that hole. That is all you are doing with the booze, trying to fill a hole. Fill it with something else

There are two basic ways, one is seeking for help with AA or something like that, don't stop drinking yet, just learn about the possibilities of not drinking, seeing people who have accomplished something you still can't might be the final push you need to stop.
Mingle and talk to people who stopped, it will help you reimagine yourself without booze.
The other way is basically a crusade against yourself.
You have to go somewhere where no alcohol can be found, leave any form of communication device that might help you get some.
And wait until the urge stops, might be up to a month though many feel better after a couple of weeks.
Your nervous system will be sort of collapsed, so take some opioids.
They will help, but if you abuse them.
You are just hooping on another train.
If you manage to stop drinking accept the fact that you are a new man.
Remake your routines and include exercises in the open preferably

Go to AA or buy the Big Book and read it front to back. AA is just an organization making an argument and they now boast a high success rate. Just hear them out. You're not addicted to alcohol you're addicted to the pursuit of trying to prove you can drink like a normal person. This can be extended to all drug addiction. All addiction is an addiction to creating and enacting schemes of control. The physical addiction is incidental, not the primary cause. It's giving you something to do, but there are better things to do. Alcohol is a good short term solution but a bad long term solution. It probably worked to fix the personal problems you had at the beginning but now those problems have either gotten worse or multiplied. Alcohol will only do this. The only way to solve your problems is to really live life on life's terms. One Day At A Time. KISS. Tomorrow morning wake up and ask your Higher Power to help you not drink that day and see what happens. I bet even if you drink it'll feel different for the first time in a long time. Good luck.

I was at ONE drink every 4 hours down from one per hour over 3 weeks. Hands shook during the taper and I wasn’t able to write with a pencil, but nothing very visible and none of the sweating and uncontrollable shaking like you see in the movies, and in the hospital I had very mild tremors and severe insomnia that lasted about 3 days, so don’t let the fear of withdrawal scare you. Personally I am of the mind that everyone wants a magical super pill or liwuid that fixes their ailments. Was it made in a lab from chemicals? Remember...our liver is a giant filter. Everything we consume must be sorted through our filter. Are things made in a chemical factory including healthy things we need? probably...but how is it processed through the liver? Is it stressing it out and damaging it? These are things we need to think about.

Personally...I wouldnt take any meds right now. You need a good foundational base of building blocks to progress your life in the right direction. This is done with ORGANIC healthy foods. Lots of veggies and fruits, lots of LEAN meats. Ground Turkey, Ground chicken(whole varients too), Seafood like prawns, scallops, oysters, fish like salmon, herring, cod etc. Does your food have 7-10 chemical ingredients on the nutritional facts? That means its highly processed. You eant to get away from processed. You want as natural as possible. Why? Your liver breaks it down far far far more easily. If you are a race car do you dump in cheap gasoline with sand and sugar? No. You went high quality gas thats pure.

Also I forgot to mention. No more butter, ghee and weird cooking oils. High quality olive oil and thats it.

Start here. This will be your foundation.

1) Get help and quit alcohol
2) Med diet
3) Organic and Natural sources
4) Exercise
5) Sleep as much as you can

Do these 5 foundational things and in 3 months you will see a minimal 25% difference in your body and the way you feel. in 5-7 months get another blood test and ultrasound and see your liver.

The problem is guys especially the "archie bunker" types have made it cool to joke about alcoholism. For example, I worked with a guy that was a biker. A giant viking looking dude that rode a Harley Davidson chopper everywhere. He had a sticker on his helmet that said "AA is for quitters" and numerous other alcohol related stickers and decals. Hey OP, 2yrs and 3 months sober here.. The biggest tip I can give you is that the ohly way you will beat it is by getting as much time sober as possible.. The longer you have sober then you will be less likely to relapse or go back becaue you will think that you have wasted all of that hard work..

Go to rehab for 6 montbhs if you can.. After that, go to Gerogia(the country) ... You cn get an implant there where if you drink it will make you deahtly iull.. Also, they haev aninjection that does the same thig and lasts 3 months.. So, I would recommend actgually getting the injection because there gonna have to cut you open for the implant and it leaves a scar.. The 3 month injection, like, in the US they have a naltrexone injection or watever and it costs like $1kUSD a month, this 3 month insjeciton is like $200 or something.. They also haver somethng called midzo, which, you build it up in yoru system for a week and then if you drink like 4 days within the last itme you took it you'll get sick as shit and almost die.. I was on that for a while too... So, if you actually want to quit these are the lengths that you shoud be willing to go.. And, yah, on the staying sober thibg, one of the things is that it will give you a MUCH clearer mind.=, and when youre thinking abotu drinking, you'll remember all of the times that youve woken up ot hungover and all that shit and you'll be like "Fuck, mrining are already difficult enough, Id raher not be super sick for them too" .. get a soda stream machine and carbonate water heavily and drink that. I used to drink a handle of Scotch every 2 days for years and quit all liquor and started drinking carbonated ice cold water during the week. It gives me something to drink thats healthy, and if you add a fuck ton of carbonation it scratches that itch for the "bite" that liquor has. I still drink a few beers on fridays and Saturdays, but I've lost 60 lbs over the past year by nearly completely quitting alcohol, carbs, sugar, and seed oils. Each time I wanted to drink I forced myself to bring up memories of being hung over and ashamed and mental images of cirrhosis jaundice. Over time I had an automatic mental connection between the desire to drink and these very negative feelings and images.
