I agree regarding the Vatican. I may be Protestant, but Roman Catholics are by far the most numerous of the Christian traditions and thus it behooves me to keep tabs on goings on within the RCC. There is a growing number of trad caths within the Roman Church that see the problems of the magisterium, but ultimately I think they are powerless. The traditional position of the Roman Church is that Roman Catholic ecumenical councils are infallible, so no matter how much they weep and gnash their teeth about it, Vatican II binds them. The Council of Trent made it abundantly clear to all parties that the Roman Catholic Church is completely incapable of reform and believes it has no need to reform. Therefore, for the "based and redpilled tradcaths" have absolutely no recourse for righting the perceived wrongs of their church. All they can do is write about how upset they are, but ultimately when the magisterium tell them to bow to novelty they will either have to bow or protest. There is no "fixing" the RCC because the RCC by its own binding declaration is eternally perfect in its magisterial judgement and thus has no need to ever be "fixed."

As for how I know I have the correct canon, it's a simple answer. We use the canon we do because it was recognized in catholicity (in other words, universally) by the church fathers as divinely inspired. The books that we "cut" (I am loathe to use that term. The canon as understood in the Western traditions was still being debated well into the medieval era) we're not regarded universally as canon amongst the fathers. Some held them as canon, some did not. We are not willing to bind our conscience to a "maybe."

A half truth, but not one said maliciously. The fact is that the church fathers were not in total agreement at all times. Some church fathers taught everything we teach, some did not. Which is why, again, we only bind ourselves to the scriptures that they agreed on in catholicity (universally), which is why the Protestant canon is so much smaller than other traditions. The reformers set a very high bar for what they considered to be canon.

Consider too that since the church fathers, while undoubtedly wise men of God, were still men. Their claims are just as fallible as anyone elses and thus must be held to account against the scriptures, which are beyond all reproach. The church fathers deserve our utmost respect and admiration but even they must answer to the word of God. If what they claimed fails scrutiny under scripture, it is discarded and not considered dogmatic.
