The most redpilled and prophetic film I've ever seen. Network, made in 1976. I'm pretty sure the writer Paddy Chayefsky had been reading up on what early globalists like David Rockefeller had planned for humanity.

Just listen to this scene and see if it doesn't seem familiar.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Sort of a microcosm for how society imposes conformity set in a mental asylum. The villain is a condescending and patronizing authoritarian nurse who breaks the spirit of anyone under her authority. It has possibly the best ending of any film I've ever seen, terribly sad yet oddly hopeful.

>'Rollerball' (1975)

If you're looking for some James Caan kino, I suggest Thief directed by Michael Mann right before he made Miami Vice.

One of the best heist movies ever made. It has an oddly libertarian plot where the hero wants his money up front from the mob; but they try to invest it for him in a scheme that sounds almost identical to what the government does with social security.

Great performances all around, really cool soundtrack, /k/ approved gunfights and James Caan rocks a blued Colt Gold M1911 .45 which is just gorgeous.

Here's the first scene of the film where they pull a bank job.

I think they were they were going to pay him; but they were jewing him by holding his money and investing it then giving him his money back in installments so they could profit off the investment and keep him around as an asset if they wanted him to do another job. Which is basically how social security works.

That was my interpretation anyway.

It was made in 1966. I'm pretty sure Caan was intended to be sort of a stand in for the younger boomer generation to relate to which would explain his weird outfit and mannerisms. It also didn't help that he was 26 and had to act next to two greats like John Wayne and Robert Mitchum.

Yes. It has the best car chase in the history of film; but aside from that its a really solid crime mystery from start to finish. Typically cool performance from Steve McQueen.

My only real problem with it is that the final action scene at the end of the film doesn't live up to the car chase earlier on; but what could.

Excellent and Peter Yates' first big film success.
I'd love to have seen it on a big screen when originally released, the film is deservedly famous and not just for the car chase/McQueen
another don't-miss Yates is 'The Friends of Eddie Coyle' (1973) with Mitchum
and the superb 'Breaking Away' (1979)
a less-known but also excellent crime thriller is 'Eyewitness' (1981) with Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt and James Woods, whole film drips with atmosphere

Hollywood used to have some people that weren't complete pussies working in it. Friedkin was such a man.

Modern Hollywood is 90% conformist woke nepo babies making Democratic party agitprop or Capeshit CGI fests for children. The studios won't spend money on anything now that isn't pushing the agenda or that's a derivative big budget copy of the films that have already made them money.

the great think about the 1970s era 'anti-Hollywood' was the freshness of it, many of these were younger directors that grew up with film school training (Friedkin, DePalma, Scorsese) and were trying out new things.
That's why these films are sought after and continue to be watched, talked about. The freshness and spontaneity of discovery and move-along, we're trying/doing this by everyone involved in the production, not just director or actors

Kids. - Weimar Republic, but 1990s. Probably banned in Canada now

A Serbian film, because it hasn't been mentioned, a complete mockery of film making and also a dark portrayal of life in pornography, very underrated unless you enjoy fucked up movies.

Postal
A bridge too far (good WW2 kino)
The longest day (good b&w WW2 kino with John Wayne smoking cigars and being hauled around on a trolley the whole movie.
9th company, Russian full metal jacket, very based fighting scenes.
Battle for svestapol, good WW2 kino, recently made.

The virgin suicides, oddly depicts a comfy lifestyle and early 90s kino.

>"not suited for film"
?
How is the acting in 'Network' "total ham"?
what distinguishes the acting from any other 1972-1978 circa motion picture
What does that even mean

Some movies are made/adapted (meaning they have to be re-written, scripted) from stage plays. And also from novels. Or are written from scratch as a movie script. Many of the greatest film directors (Ingmar Bergman, or 'Network's Sidney Lumet) have come from being stage play directors and actors themselves, this frequently makes them more attuned to the needs and strengths of their actor cast and consequently get more out of their performances and the film itself.
(In the case of 'Network' overall it's a smash success)

You can't listen to it all the time

yes I know what you mean: Not listening to the actual piece but rather reading/hearing *about* the music 'well it's the same phrase over and over'... would make one think : "huh? Why"
It's an experiential type of music and presentation. Also go to a concert hall performance of this stuff, it's powerful.
