One of the best heist movies ever made. It has an oddly libertarian plot where the hero wants his money up front from the mob; but they try to invest it for him in a scheme that sounds almost identical to what the government does with social security.
Great performances all around, really cool soundtrack, /k/ approved gunfights and James Caan rocks a blued Colt Gold M1911 .45 which is just gorgeous.

Which is basically how social security works.
That was my interpretation anyway.

>>512752511>is bullitt any goodYes. It has the best car chase in the history of film; but aside from that its a really solid crime mystery from start to finish. Typically cool performance from Steve McQueen.
My only real problem with it is that the final action scene at the end of the film doesn't live up to the car chase earlier on; but what could.
>>512752511Excellent and Peter Yates' first big film success.
I'd love to have seen it on a big screen when originally released, the film is deservedly famous and not just for the car chase/McQueen
another don't-miss Yates is 'The Friends of Eddie Coyle' (1973) with Mitchum
and the superb 'Breaking Away' (1979)
a less-known but also excellent crime thriller is 'Eyewitness' (1981) with Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt and James Woods, whole film drips with atmosphere
>>512752615>final actionNot to give it away but that was the most beautifully shot part of the film imho
>>512752571Hollywood used to have some people that weren't complete pussies working in it. Friedkin was such a man.
Modern Hollywood is 90% conformist woke nepo babies making Democratic party agitprop or Capeshit CGI fests for children. The studios won't spend money on anything now that isn't pushing the agenda or that's a derivative big budget copy of the films that have already made them money.
>>512752758the great think about the 1970s era 'anti-Hollywood' was the freshness of it, many of these were younger directors that grew up with film school training (Friedkin, DePalma, Scorsese) and were trying out new things.
That's why these films are sought after and continue to be watched, talked about. The freshness and spontaneity of discovery and move-along, we're trying/doing this by everyone involved in the production, not just director or actors
>>512752751Its a pretty scene, I'll give it that. But SPOILER watching the whole police force struggle to chase down one guy isn't that exciting when you're watching it from the perspective of the police and not the guy trying to get away.
another excellent early seventies film is 'Electra Glide in Blue' starring Robert Blake, and produced by James William Guercio (of Chicago, the rock band)
some viewed it as an 'anti-Easy Rider' but however it's seen is a superb lower budget crime drama shot in Arizona

>>512757901>"not suited for film"?
How is the acting in 'Network' "total ham"?
what distinguishes the acting from any other 1972-1978 circa motion picture
What does that even mean
Some movies are made/adapted (meaning they have to be re-written, scripted) from stage plays. And also from novels. Or are written from scratch as a movie script. Many of the greatest film directors (Ingmar Bergman, or 'Network's Sidney Lumet) have come from being stage play directors and actors themselves, this frequently makes them more attuned to the needs and strengths of their actor cast and consequently get more out of their performances and the film itself.
(In the case of 'Network' overall it's a smash success)

>>512763346Yea, he played it real nice. It's a shame he died in the end, even though the world was fucked up in there he still kept everything positive. The movie showed the nature of both sides and proved that the gouvernment was not much different from the system prisoners created.
