Japs also hired IBM and licensed their 2nm process. How desperate are they for help?

japan has been living in the year 2000 since the 1980s, they've been stagnant for a long time. whoever was stealing secrets probably had to fax them over

Bullshit. Nothing about a 2nm process that's even remotely important can be captured on a smartphone camera. The secret stuff is mostly in what chemicals are used, what temp, what pressure, for how long, time to cool down, what other chemical to add, how much of it and so on and so on.

Yeah and all that shit will be displayed on monitors that someone can take pictures of. Do you think all the lithography is happening via some random Taiwanese guy psychically projecting the specs that only he knows into the system or something?

I was kinda surprised by the nonchalance they displayed while talking about mainland china. I think they have this way of talking about uneasy topics, just pretend you know nothing about it

If you read better sources thats not Tom's, you'll note that these photos contained screenshots of TSMC's process methodology. The leakers would connect with TSMCs network from home and browse confidential data for several minutes and log off. They would do that same shit constantly thus TSMC started to investigate.
It's not just pictures of their fab equipment. There is a reason wht both Tokyo Electronics and TSMC fired employees immediately and why TSMC filed a lawsuit. Its not something you do over a trivial matter.
