Am i just completely socially isolated or does noone do anything irl anymore? I have tons of acquaintances at work and the gym but nobody ever asks to hangout or do fun activities. From what i understand everyone just goes to work and then goes home or hangs with family. Are social groups alive anymore? Where the fuck are all the young adults?

I live in a college town once known for partying so hard the had to crack down on parties back in the 90s
Friday nights barely anyone is out and about. I talk to old heads who say every bar and restraint used to be PACKED weekend nights.

I don't remember how we got on to the topic but one guy I worked with said his entire day is just work, netflix and sleep. He is almost fifty with two children and multiple other people agreed with him that they live like that aswell.
I started getting back into MtG after that. Strange to think that the worst spergs at our Local game store now have more of a social life than average normies.

All the kids I know, literally all of them, steal shit in their down time. They don’t game, they don’t fuck (strangely), they literally just focus on trying to gank shit. I could go into details but just trust me, this is what they are doing.

I have a buddy who got divorced at 50, he was down and bored and losing his confidence, we started hanging out more because I kept pushing him to do so, now we get together every week and it’s a good time.
We also meet at my place to consume copious amounts of shrooms once every 2-4 weeks (much to my wife’s dismay) and blast the fuck off from reality enjoying the fact we’re both complete wrecks for 6-7 hours, it’s bonding that brings old friends back closer again.
There is hope, but you can’t be lazy waiting for someone else to do the work.

I basically stopped trying with my old friend group because it was one sided, I tried to go out for pints or organise poker nights at mine but nobody else cared to do the same. Even meeting up for a walk and a coffee, it had to come from me. Hard work. I stopped bothering and nobody has been in touch in a year, its weird how people keep friends just because they don't want to feel lonely and not because they have any bond or loyalty. The single ones just drink and scroll on devices or game, and the couples do that "together" in their free time.
I have 2 other friends I get drinks with every month or so now and it's honestly more enjoyable because they are not normies.

Yup it's not you, it started even before Covid but got way worse after

Greek here born in '93 reporting in. Things not so bad here, but people have went from late night partying to just going to Cafe. The prices of drinks (8-10 euros each) sure has affected this, but I agree with you that it's a generational thing.

Personally I was never a party animal but I make sure to visit a club a couple of times per year to dance with my wife. Maybe we "old people" are driving the youngsters away, who knows?

I reflected and realized realized that all my friends from back when I was super popular were always getting mad at me like I did something wrong, but it was never related to the times where I actually did do something wrong. Then I was like, hold on, all these times happen Trump is doing stuff these people don't like. Then I realized nothing I did mattered to them and that they were taking their complaints about Trump out on me personally. The only way I've found to get this again is traveling or education. You need to either go to a hostel in a cool place, go on one of those organized group trip, or back to university/college.
Alternatively developing country in south America, SEA and southern Europe still have relatively good social scenes.
People will chose the path of least resistance unless they are forced to or genuinely want to experience something specific.
