The point of Liberia wasn't that blacks would create their own thriving society there (it was probably well understood even back then that it would fail, but that was the blacks' problem); it was to be the dumping ground for African-Americans after slavery was abolished. This was Abraham Lincoln's intention for reconstruction, but his plans got interrupted by (((John Wilkes Booth))), and as a result the Blacks never got shipped back like they were supposed to but instead became a permanent thorn in this country's side.

This reminds me of that giant pyramid hotel that Kim il-Sung started building in North Korea back in the 1980s but the collapse of the USSR meant the North Korean economy could no longer finish it so its been abandoned in an uncomplete state for 35+ years or whatever.

However, recently Kim Jong-un has cleaned it up so that it at least outwardly looks like its been finished (the inside is completely unfurnished though) and they use it to do propaganda lightshows on the side of it.
