I caught the end of Wait Wait, Don't Tell ME yesterday and wondered how else this shit could have kept on the air for so long without gov't money.

i like npr because they don't play long breaks of obnoxious ads and often have more interesting music selection than the corporate radio. even if they beg for "viewer donations" it's typically like 10 seconds of air time and not half as obnoxious as the shit i hear on other radio stations. i don't really understand why people have made it their identity to hate it.

USAID was probably a big part of it too.

PBS and NPR are generally unbiased, independent of government propaganda and provide key benefits to US democracy
https://theconversation.com/pbs-and-npr-are-generally-unbiased-independent-of-government-propaganda-and-provide-key-benefits-to-us-democracy-261512
Ad Fontes Media, a self-described “public benefit company” whose mission is to rate media for credibility and bias, have placed the reporting of “PBS NewsHour” under 10 points left of the ideological center. They label it as both “reliable” and based in “analysis/fact.” “Fox and Friends,” by contrast, the popular morning show on Fox News, is nearly 20 points to the right. The scale starts at zero and runs 42 points to the left to measure progressive bias and 42 points to the right to measure conservative bias. Ratings are provided by three-person panels comprising left-, right- and center-leaning reviewers.

A 2020 peer-reviewed study in Science Advances that tracked more than 6,000 political reporters likewise found “no evidence of liberal media bias” in the stories they chose to cover, even though most journalists are more left-leaning than the rest of the population.

A similar 2016 study published in Public Opinion Quarterly said that media are more similar than dissimilar and, excepting political scandals, “major news organizations present topics in a largely nonpartisan manner, casting neither Democrats nor Republicans in a particularly favorable or unfavorable light.”

Surveys show public media’s audiences do not see it as biased. A national poll of likely voters released July 14, 2025, found that 53% of respondents trust public media to report news “fully, accurately and fairly,” while only 35% extend that trust to “the media in general.” A majority also opposed eliminating federal support.

I love that NPR is losing its funding, it keeps white people uneducated, ignorant and retarded so it makes it easier for us chosen ones to manipulate them. Being retarded also correlates with being a republican so it's great that we'll be getting these fresh republican voters out of this effort too

Thank you Donnie, even a hook nosed curly Jew couldn't have done it better

> Bill Gates
Sorry, he has to give his entire fortune to Africa. All the capital built up by Microsoft? It's going to Africa. Rich people used to build amazing buildings and opera houses and train stations in America. But now they build mud huts, toilets, and AIDS treatment centers in Africa so African people can be healthy enough to survive the boat ride over to Europe.

I've been watching PBS and NPR as of late, and they're pretty middle of the road. Kind of shit. Kind of objective. Not complete shit.
AI is destroying the search industry, which is destroying the news industry. PBS/NPR are like a stand of trees that shapes and protects from harsher winds. You laugh now. But when they're gone, it's just you verses Peter Thiel who is in control of the truth because all AI has to pass the Palantir test.

Job corps destroyed the trades and the master apprentice relationship, whereas people used to have family business they passed down or locals in the neighborhood they would learn new skills from now it is in the hands of an intermediary service who funnels you to usually an assembly line or warehouse setting. Temporary services are a scam meant to demoralize man into accepting the lowest of the low for himself. Basically it does promote poverty in place of the quality things we used to have. At it's core it was probably a net positive and trade schools are still good for things like cdl HVAC etc but the modern application of it is meant to depersonalize and destroy, and it has. You will never form lifelong bonds with your employer, your neighbors, own your own business, or pass it down to your children

Thats what OP is promoting.

PBS and NPR are already pretty much entirely funded by private donations
the corporation from public broadcasting is the one that got nuked and they're the ones paying for all the little rural stations

Npr used to have actually interesting programming but these days it's just leftie progressive bullshit for millenial dinks. It's not even the fun kind of leftism where they're bloodthirsty and want to destroy everything, it's the gay controlled opposition kind. It's just nonsense like dedicated segments about mongolian lesbians making yak fur socks to spread awareness of lgbt rights in the steppes.

Science Friday was always pretty good

I’m confused if they’re actually shutting down
I know they mostly got government money but they don’t have a nest egg for this shit to run for a few years and restructure until trump is out of office?

NPR and I think PBS were both given massive donations by Ray Kroc's widow, Joan, and they've been able to leverage that since her death for meeting basic funding.

225 mil according to the wikipedia

It’s because it’s government run so it’s inefficient as hell, what I imagine is going to happen in shit in smaller states are going to get butchered where the blue states will somewhat level off with listener donations. I live in western mass so I can hear my local station and upstate new York’s, upstate New York has like a fund raiser last a day where western mass will last the month

They were getting 8 billion a year in funding from Congress before, 225 million won't cover the operating expenses for more than a week or two.

They need to go back to producing their own programming and sharing it with other stations like in the old days rather than paying the BBC billions a year for mystery shows. BBC can make their own mystery streaming service.

...but via NPR (and its extremely leftist coverage of the news) and PBS, they were. Also, why do you think so many lefties are getting their shows cancelled? USAID and favorable tax write-downs to left-controlled media outlets kind of reflect the gov't has been heavily subsidising the media and news outlets in general and are now floundering specifically BECAUSE Trump stopped letting gov't funds be redirected to support these outlets. Thanks for disproving yourself?
