thinking of switching to linux.
should I be lazy and go for something like bazzite with the steam os/desktop interface (because I mainly play games on PC)

or should I go all in and install a regular os like fedora/linux mint/ect?

Do standart route:
start with the ubuntu, get frustrated for some reason
Notice that half of your problems are solved on Linux Mint forum. Migrate.
There is only an ancient version of your favorite program in your official repository. But Arch on the other hand...
Install Arch linux with Arch wiki for imaginary points.
You bought a new pc/laptop, so install Manjaro.
Everything is great untill it's not.
Install Endeavour OS.

NixOS looks smexy tho

just be lazy and install Bazzite or Cachy, you don't have to make it difficult for yourself to earn /g/ brownie points. they're still based on Fedora and Arch respectively so it's not like you're missing out on anything that base Fedora/Arch users have

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

>this shitty copypasta again
I've said it before, and I'll say it again as many times as it takes:
>Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux
is not necessarily true. The first Linux versions were independent of the whole GNU stuff, and there's independent developments based on those versions. You can have Linux without GNU, GNU without Linux, or any combination of the two.
If you want to sound clever, at least check the bullshit you're pasting.

i'd say go for something regular and stable that won't give you headaches. the vast majority of games run fine on linux. the ones that i never bothered learning how to run in linux were either gachashit or obscure rpgmaker/era trainer coomer games.

I bought a Mac.
>runs CLion, Dorico, and Adobe stuff for game dev
>128 gb of main memory
>insanely fast compilation
>UI is snappy and responsive, feels like Windows 7, very different from windows 11's laggy webshit UI

The only reason not to buy a Mac is if you want to do gaming but even then it depends what kinds of games you want to play, I've been playing CK3 and Stellaris and Cyberpunk 2077 and they all run great. Actually I think newer Paradox games run better on Mac because I see people bitching about lategame lag in them probably on x86 and I haven't experienced it.

If you don't click random links and have extremely basic ad/script blockers then you can just keep using W10 past end of life. There's no magic hacker beam that can target your PC as soon as you miss a security update. Plus no one is targeting you anyway. They want access to enterprise and government data, not your jerk off folders.

Software updates were not free, everyone paid for Windows. Since XP there has been a criminal conspiracy to turn software into a monthly revenue stream when people already paid full price up front. Since that isn't enough for the parasites on top, they're also datamining everyone on top of it.

Yes, security updates cost money to fix, but those security flaws are evidence a faulty product was sold to people in the first place.

I just woke up, I decided to beat my meat, I stroked myself in a frenzy and said good morning to nobody in particular. I coomed, iced my raw cock and now I will go back to sleep.
In posting this, I'm sure several white and non-white posters will see my ugly brown cock in their mind's eye, and will no doubt visualize me posting this while shitting outside. Yes, I made it up. I just pushed out a waterfall of stinky diarrhea from my hairy brown asshole and my piss splashed down on my smegma-crusted balls. I don't know how it got there, but it stinks.

And 10 people and you’ll get 50 different answers. This is the oldest argument in Linux lore. Best advice I can give is try different distros until you find one you like.

Also I’m honestly jealous of you. It brings me back to my 90s childhood when I’d order different Linux distros and have them delivered to my house on CD. Now I do this shit for a living and it’s ruined it for me.
