There isn’t more than one organized faction.
There’s a broad RW coalition constantly making up threats in order to consolidate power, while there is no credible opposition to that power.
And then there’s a bunch of scattered, disorganized libs who are always posting and sometimes showing up for national protest days but not doing anything.
And then there’s grassroots protests happening that mostly live at the local level.
If anything, I could imagine blue states cooperating less and less with the Feds, and in the resulting chaos, we will see organized RW groups larping in public more and targeting individuals in their community KKK style.

Imo the biggest thing people miss with a modern American civil war is the obscene amount of interference from basically every other first world country for one or multiple sides. China would be retarded not to get involved, as would the EU. Canada and Mexico as our direct neighbors would benefit from interloping as well. Probably not with direct ground troops necessarily but equipment, training and intel, absolutely. In my time in the Chair Force I realized quickly NCOs were mostly salt of the earth conservatives, officers were neocons/neolibs, and your standard airmen just doing 4 years for free college is a grab bag of ideologies too, so the military would likely fracture into several disparate factions. Whatever emerges out of that scenario will not be a new United States, might as well just try to balkanize as peacefully as possible because the end result is the same without all the wanton death and destruction.

Chicago is highly segregated and so are most other big cities in the US. They built and planned them that way. Crime is also still low in those cities despite the economic destabilization since Covid. There isn’t currently ethnic warfare in them despite what /pol/ tells you.
Where the big cities will have trouble is if they can’t maintain supply chains.

It is more likely to be a revolution against and targeting the federal government in Washington DC than the civil war fought between fellow Americans that leftists promote. Very few Americans will fight fellow Americans to support the depravity, corruption and lies we see from Washington DC. The most war gamed scenario among think tanks funded by the federal government is what happens when the American people resort to violence to oppose the federal government. No other scenario has more money spent evaluating it. The results of these war games are not published because they do not support the current propaganda narrative.
The fact is the US military becomes non functional the moment it is pointed at American citizens. In summary,
- 25 % of US military personnel refuse to report for duty upon receiving orders to kill fellow Americans.
- 25% report for duty but passively resist from the inside ie, intentionally confusing orders, commands, very slow to complete tasks, not relaying critical information etc
- 25 % of US military personnel actively resist from the inside. These are the troops that kill officers that tell them to kill fellow Americans.
All urban centers will lose power, water, sanitation services, police and emergency services quickly. Depending on how the revolution against the federal government for the specific scenario plays out possibly on day one. Washington DC , for example, relies on power lines, interstate highways, secondary roads and rail lines that transit the guerilla friendly Appalachian mountains.

Blue cities: martial law and ration distribution with massive riots and crime within a few days
Reddish cities: reds leave for country, blues promised food and stay until a few days pass then see blue cities
Suburbs: depends on make up but high value, high trust areas probably bond together, place cars at choke points and battle with invading city dwellers. Ultimately either the blue city kids all get killed or scared and stop attacking or suburbs get overrun.
Rurals: basically the same until government shows up with guns wanting food for redistribution in cities.
