I am gonna give you guys a rundown on what I know and what I think actually happened
Based on witness testimonies from the gun range he attended he was a very good marksman with that rifle

Based on followup videos by gun bros they showed that at that range with that particular rifle hitting a target should be easy peezy

Taking this into account, if you look at the photos of his body on the roof you will see his rifle is sitting near an edge like 12 feet away from him

Based on rifle position relative to body, I think he threw it
I believe he was hired to not kill trump, but "shoot at him" and was instructed to surrender after taking a few shots at the crowd and him by his handler

What poor little crooks didn't know was that they never had any intention of letting him live.
My theory is he threw the rifle away and attempted to surrender, at which point he was executed by the 4th man on the inside(a member of the sniper unit on the take)
