We need a food ration. Single package unit thats nutrient dense that will take the place of giving those who won't/can't work a food solution.
Its got to be like Nutriloaf but taste semi decent and provide nourishment. It can be handed out in emergency situations and be somewhat shelf stable. A human being has to be able to survive daily on it so it needs to be somewhat well put together. It should be edible out of the package and also be possible microwavable or pan fryable.
(this may actually help fat asses stop being fat)

This would significanfuckinly cut down on the tax payers burden to pay for people who refuse to works food. I'm not saying everyone needs to be classified as a recipient of this Ration but it needs to exist for those who CAN work and refuse to find work. Of course we shouldn't be handing this out to older folks that are disabled and getting food assistance for legitimate reasons.

There could even be a dessert ration.

Fun fact. You are not supposed to live on MRE's for an extended period of time. The low fiber content among other reasons is why the DOD recommends not relying on MRE's for more than 21 days at a time. They also don't all last 8 years when you get them. The safe bet is 3-5 years. As long as you eat them and rotate through them. Keeping a months worth isn't a bad idea. I like my home made freeze dryer meals better than a lot of the MRE's I used to get issued and honestly mountain house while pretty good on average is are not verry filling and get pricy quick. Most freeze dried meal buckets are loaded up with cheap carbs to pad the calorie stats and not worth the money.

I've been playing around with soft canning recently and it's pretty decent. All you really need is a sealer that can do mylar pouches, but a chamber vac works best.

Single unit rations were obsolete 50 years ago when it was quickly discovered that food aversion ruined rationing.
If food is monotonous, people will actually stop eating. Their eating becomes disordered and their digestion is effected, they start eating things which are inedible.

Single packet rations are prone to damage and can't be adjusted. You can't issue half rations out of single packet serves.

On mission I once had to survive for 15 days on a mix of rice flour and crushed sorrel and almost went mad from the experience. Of all the things that happened on mission what pushed me over the edge was eating these fucking bricks of rice and sorrel. But I didn't die, didn't have to leave cover, self extracted.
