August is expected to be the hottest month on record. Now consider we were quite a bit BELOW those levels where said graph began sometime after inception of the industrial age.

There may be something of a balance carbon-sink effect, and we are unnaturally pushing abient levels somewhat higher than they might otherwise remain, but aside from some foolishness like leaded gasoline, burning fossil fuels is probably going to be seen as one of the most unexpected boons to humanity, apart from the obvious affects it had on social mobility. 200 years from now it will likely be recorded idiots actually tried to interrupt us from accidentally saving ourselves.

The answer is because there's that thing in the sky called the sun and it does whatever the fuck it wants. Roman Warming? Yup. Little Ice Age from the 14th to 19th century? Yup. A volcano goes off and it's known as The Year Without Summer and inspires literature for years afterward during the Romantic period? Yup. The climate changes all the time.
