I've experienced something similar. Moved back to my hometown in my late 20s, worked a blue collar dead end job, then managed to find a comfy office job. But because I'm a few years older than the zoomers in my company my age is brought up constantly. asked several times to repeat how old I am etc with surprised expressions afterwards as if it's unreal. I try not to let it get to me but it isn't nice when people just see your entire existence as "older guy who should be in a better place". I think a lot of people operate on a basic default mode where they are constantly calibrating their perceived status level according to those around them, or maybe it just seems that way because I'm bitter. Still, I don't get the status thing.
