I met a bunch of tourists from Sweden today and the conversation eventually came to this imagine that went viral a few years ago on 4chan. When confronted about it they admitted that giving guests food in Sweden is unheard of and food is expensive over there. They also said that it's normal as a kid to go over at a friends house to play video games and when it's time for dinner they tell you to wait in the room while they eat.

As kids we went back to our respective homes and ate, then got back together. If their home wasn't a reasonable walking distance, either the night ended or whoever parents fed them both and they did the same thing at the other kids place next time.
You either invite the kid to dinner or send them home. It was unspoken that if you either take responsibility for someone else's kid for a few hours and everything they need, or you met as families in neutral ground like a park.

I remember visiting Italy as a kid. We shared a house with some relatives and friends for a month or so. The men played cards and the women cooked all fucking day. I had to hide in my bedroom until like 1 pm every day because I knew the minute I stepped out I'd be fed, and I was usually still full from the night before.
