The truth is that otaku subculture is filled with precise and sharp progressive critique because it wells up from counterculture in opposition to Japan's reactionary mainstream culture. The entire attempt to drag anime into a gamergate style culture war in the west is because this truth is acknowledged by western reactionaries who want to destroy and bury the original subculture for fear of its messages of liberation. Everything is political and all art of note is made with specifically political intentions. Concrete Revolutio is one of the best examples here because the creators leaned especially hard on direct references to events in postwar history to bludgeon the audience, like UN-GO before it which based the ideals of its main character on a famous postwar essay about Japan's opportunity to fall away from the lies of fascist history.
