>>512828195>I just don't see him being that much of a threat. He didn't have the charisma that Hitler had.Early on in the NSDAP there were for lack of better words a bunch of miscreants that joined the SA
Not the entirety of the SA, but it was a significant element
The kind of guys you need to go and bash in the heads of communists in the streets, you aren't going to recruit choir boys for such a task
Röhm was the only person capable of corralling these men and keeping some semblance of order among them
Hitler didn't care how he did it so long as he got the job done, probably why he was willing to overlook accusations of Röhm's alleged
This is why Röhm was brought back after a 5 year exile after disagreeing with Hitler and Ludendorff when they wanted to go with the more legal path to taking power (they were right)
Röhm resigned in 1925 and was brought back in 1930 to essentially rein in the more miscreant elements of the SA
Fast forward to 1933 when the NSDAP finally took power there were a lot of disaffected men with no skulls left to bash
They felt betrayed in a sense
They expected for their efforts they would be lavished with rewards
The upper echelons of the NSDAP saw them getting a country free of both jewish communism and capitalism along with plentiful jobs, a clean social environment, and generous social programs as the reward in it of itself
These guys were pissed, felt unrewarded, and didn't have the outlet of street fights with the enemy anymore
So Röhm didn't need to be charismatic
He had willing and experienced men that felt slighted ready to go
This is why when credible evidence was discovered that Röhm was orchestrating a coup Hitler went for a decapitation strike immediately
