It's the humidity that fucks you with high heats, Europe is generally humid. Euros need to smash water & stay cool on real hot days. Everyone does, but when you aren't acclimatized to high temps it will hit you hard. 45 is hot as fuck here too but we're used to handling high heats on the regular

High pressure area over central Europe right now, also sometimes called or conflated with a pressure heat dome. The Alps have a humid oceanic climate so they don't get as fucked and the cool mountains breezes blow into the lowlands and dales. There's a fucking HUGE high pressure zone over the northeast Pacific off the coast of BC and Alaska right now that is causing near record breaking drought in the southwest US right now as well. Both areas are virtually cloudless right now.

actual heat is 30
up to 26 it's not heat
over 40 is entering record temps territory in paris
but what made the not so old heatwave that killed 10.000 deadly was the duration; two to three weeks of it

It’s because we are frontiers to the ocean, means high humidity along with how the Atlantic ocean can get quite hot and the wind carries the heat and moisture inland.

Plus lump in the fact Europe is a very densely populated place with infrastructure designed for the past 1000 years to insulate and keep warmth in rather than disperse.

Just go and learn basic geography and European history and it all will make sense
