The greatest threat to any powerful nation is a deeply entrenched political elite enriching themselves with public funds while refusing to give up power or reform to adapt to changing circumstances
It happened to rome, to the ottomans, to the byzantines, to the han and qing dynasties, to the USSR, and we are watching it happen to the US in real time

You're right. This thread needs to be pruned to make way for another thread about Nick Fuentes, Tucker Carlson or circumcision

I agree with the point you are making, but how much of the pic is just boomers being boomers? That generation is vapid and materialistic to the core. Does the US have a Washington elite issue? 100%. How much of that issue is specific to this one generation? They would sell their soul for a nickel and a headpat.

Congress members are allowed to police themselves, leading to widespread corruption via insider trading and lobbying, not to mention the lack of term/age limits
Their decision making obeys the will of the corporate class, which controls their respective parties, DNC and GOP, through donations, and without the support of which their political careers would go nowhere
So political power is artificially gatekept out of the hands of the youth and middle-low class, which is bled dry through student loans, rent, healthcare costs, and other means, the beneficiaries of which are all massively privileged politically (see: PPP loan forgiveness, corporate/bank bailouts, etc.)
It's an entirely unsustainable model that just keeps pushing the general populace, particularly those lacking generational wealth to fall back on, further and further into poverty while a handful of people reap all the benefits

>Congress members are allowed to police themselves
Ethics committee, if I remember correctly. Lobbying groups spend a fuckton of money to stuff the ethics committee with people they know will play ball.
>So political power is artificially gatekept out of the hands of the youth and middle-low class
Not exactly. There are middle class people in the House and Senate, but most of them lose themselves to the allure of easy cash. The number of people who enter the hill with principals is small, but it does happen.

I agree with most of what you are saying, but I think people ascribe malice when the truth is bureaucratic velocity. The War on Terror era was defined by an ethos of "I don't care what it costs, get it done today." This made a lot of leeches very wealthy, and exacerbated the existing issue of entrenched lobby groups.

i disagree, it is energy production and greta thunberg hysteria convinced many nations to wait until china surpassed everyone.
