incredible rare earth deposit
Finland is the only place found in Europe which contains large cache of rare-earth metal deposited in one place

There is 100 meter wide rock, 500 meters underground, which is full of rare-earth metals

It is in uninhabitated wilderness

https://www.verkkouutiset.fi/a/hs-suomesta-tehtiin-ainutlaatuinen-mineraaliloyto/

They reported the find is rare internationally. China has been the only country with similar deposits. But China however has more than one.

If for some reason people would start to mine metal in Finland it would bring jobs to Finland.
But Finland cannot afford to start the mine alone, a foreign investor is needed.

This really is the only such deposit on Europe, no others have been found.

You should start excavations there to see if there are any ancient human remains. The soil is probably lower in pH than the rest of Finland so acid may not have degraded the DNA of bronze and stone age skeletons that might be deposited there.

thanks EU
It's much worse than eastern europe, at least true eastern europe like Poland gets massive amounts of gibs from EU. But EU treats us like a "rich nordic country" and we have to PAY the EU. So we are doubly fucked from every direction.

You're half right. It's still "rare" in that it's only a tiny fraction of the minerals on earth, but they're spread out everywhere. Ideally you want higher than normal concentration before you start digging up rock, but even then you're looking at about 1kg of metals for every ton of rock. Mining it is still difficult in the sense that you need to mine a lot for a small amount of metals, but processing it all isn't easy either.

South America has more lithium than anywhere else on earth, and you don't have to mine 500 meters underground to get it.
In Chile, you're walking on lithium, all you need is a shovel and bucket.

500 meters translates into a trillion dollar gamble, and if it pans out, investors won't get returns for 10 years.

Finland wants to be like Sweden, and bring in some diversity. It's true India has a lot of people who worked in the mining profession, and for a fair Finland could probably snatch up some of that talent. You can't just build a mining camp and expect them to be happy there in the middle of nowhere. Fins will have to let them into their homes and communities.

So called "rare earth" minerals are really rare, multiple Western countries have large deposits. The problem isn't the deposits or the extracting, but their refinement which is incredibly dirty business and environmentally damaging. (((Multinational corporations))) will externalize these damages and just walk away with the profits. It's better not to extract rare earth minerals and just shut up about them.
