For me it's being able to read and write in that language. That's all. I don't care about going there or talking to them, I just want to grab a book with no furigana and enjoy. I'm not there yet, and some days are very hard and I wonder if I'll ever be able to understand, but I keep at it everyday.

for me is to be able to read manga and watch anime without subtitles, plus Japan is a country I'd like to visit and being able to instantly recognize their caligraphy and understand it as a means to not get lost is a huge bonus. I learned cyrilic a few years ago because of this aswell
