nobody believes in the grand narrative. I have a good PRC friend, who used to brag about china. used to love the shit out of it. 'china number 1' sort of guy. put chinese flags on his car etc.

But now he tells me endless stories of people trying to get out, and how miserable most people there are. Most chinese dont give a fk about the party. they just want it to stay away while they get on with their lives.

Chinese just care about their immediate families. that's it.

I think the "zomg china collapse in 2 weeks" shit is bs and garbage. But the situation in china is worse than the ccp admits publicly and they try to cover it up. The mass stabbings and the lying flat movement are not indicative of a healthy society. The US also isnt a healthy society and isnt 2 weeks from collapse but things arent great here. Ccp can change the direction of the ship but it doesnt seem likely. They think they can export their way out of social problems and through economic dominance and global power, domestic social issues are minimized and dissenters dealt with it. I dont blame chinese people for fleeing, I would do the same.
