Think of it this way: regardless of your stance on trannies specifically, if we COULD perform a functional and comprehensive sex change of a normal man into a normal woman, just think about what that means for the larger scope of medical biotech. Think of how good our surgery and gene manipulation has to be for that to work, the organ growth/transplant improvements that would by necessity have to have been done for this to be true, etc.

It's kind of like how in reaching our goal to put a man on the moon, we invented a hundred other things along the way that went on to have practical uses outside of the space race. The 'full sex conversion' goal would require us to come up with new medical technologies and procedures that would be life saving for millions of other people in other contexts. We'd all reap the benefits from those advancements, even we have no intention of ever transitioning ourselves.
