It was a distraction from their own internal problems, in particular from the sickness of their financial system that almost collapsed in 2008 and again in late 2019, shortly before they launched Covid, it came dangerously close to an infarct. All their power depends on the financial system. All their measures, all their naratives, climate, covid, wokeness, ukraine, whatever, is ultimately meant to keep it on life support and themselves in power. They know that if it collapses they will be hunted down and torn to pieces.
