To a holy God, if it really did matter the way we lived, if there was a way to avoid being condemned before being saved. Religion wouldn’t exist.
So, logically looking at the context. It’s not what you don’t do that saves you. It’s where you’re putting your faith. Religion puts it in you. The gospel puts it in God.
What seems foolish, ridiculed, mocked beaten and killed in this world seems pretty true at this point.
Almost certain at this point that Jesus wasn’t arguing for religion at all, considering the people he butted heads with the most were priests. This would inevitably put religion as evidence of Satan. Merely medicating the problem they admit exists themselves rather than trusting God. Though they’re actually idolating themselves and that’s why religion is so attractive to a world this fucked up. Subtle, fucking subtle.
