The world would have been unironically been better had dial-up still was the norm, even if web pages took over a minute to slowly load, videos would very slowly buffer, and download of things larger than a text file would often take all night.

It was good times have my own pc in the mid to late 90s. I used to straight up steal those AOL diskettes for free hours online. I had a phone line in my room and my PC had a modem so I was online for years before we got real high speed internet and my parents found out what the internet was. Kek. Good times. I met my fiancée in an international anonymous online chatting site. It's not the same (too much sexual promiscuity and scams and other stuff), but at least the idea is still there. But going on that site, if you didn't already swallow the Yellow Pill, will make you realize that there's an complete night-and-day difference.
