Cause breakthroughs like these are rare and most of this war is slow squad/platoon level infantry and drone slog with glacial pace of advance. βHuman wavesβ you hear about are basically 5 or 6 guys going somewhere either on light vehicles or on foot after drones and artillery pulverize everything and trying to dig in.
This is the most defended part of the whole front at this point and the fact Russians managed to advance ~20 km so quickly and fan out indicates thereβs something really wrong with Ukrainian defenses. Whether itβs local or indicates the start of systemic collapse of Ukrainian Army remains to be seen.
Russian strategy is very simple and boring, they launch small-scale low-cost attacks everywhere and wear Ukrainians down. If they move a lot of troops to plug this gap, Russians will just push harder somewhere else and then itβs rinse and repeat.
Cruel thing about this war is that if youβre mentally challenged like most Ukraine supporters and have attention span of a goldfish this dynamic makes you think Ukraine is βholdingβ, but theyβre only βholdingβ cause Russians wage the war in a boring and economical way.
This war virtually ended in 2023 in terms of outcome. Since then, ignoring PR stunts like Kursk or Krynky (particularly bizarre episode), Ukraine completely lacks initiative and can only sit there and take it. Even the talk of some giga-counter-offensyiv has died down months ago.
